DO YOU HAVE IT IN BLUE?
DO YOU HAVE IT IN BLUE?
Sold to a Lady in Salt Lake
....and I want one too! Sold to husband
The couple from Salt Lake City snapped up the two gorgeous 76 and 77 Ty's I had just built so
as they looked so good I thought I would make another.
Into the pile and find a decent frame, engine and some wheels. Check the frame for all the known
lugs that fall off, rear upper engine mount, silencer mounting on the rear frame tube and the central
fender mount. Paint the frame in Baby Blue and get to work on the engine.
Note the 90 bend for the IGN wire
Usual mods, oil pump off, blanking plate on, ignition work on the other side with the little 90 bend
out of the case. New points and 12 tooth engine sprocket. Spray the barrel and head then get to
work on the fins with another collection of flap wheels from ACE. New gaskets and finally blank off
the oil hole in the barrel, this being the TY250A motor.
Find a good quality exhaust, never ceases to amaze me the damage some people can do to such
a well made and engineered machine. Spray the pipe and silencer and then replace the baby blue
guard on the pipe which in this case didn't have the mini bolts sheared off in it! (Very common)
Take the Sammy Miller tank and seat unit and remove the decals ( just an aside here, I often hear
stories of how bad these units are and how they disintegrate but please remember that we didn't
have racing fuel available in the 70's even 25:1 was considered a bit cavalier by some!) so stay
with 91 octane and a 40:1 mix and all will be well.
As this is going to be blue recover the seat in blue leather and redo the side decals to match, not
forgetting the little black cat.
All the normal new bits, carb, cables, uni filter, Renthals maguras, domino throttle, chain and finish
off with some black fenders.......Very Nice!
Give it a test run at the local Central Arizona Trials in Payson and it performs flawlessly so it
becomes a keeper, albeit as a spare as "SuperGlitz" is still the "Alpha" Yam!
It did get a second airing at the AHRMA Casper event in 2006 when the pilot jet plugged on Super
Glitz, and I was forced to change bikes (You just have to like that AHRMA ruling)
Baby Blue was sold on E-bay and again there will be a prize for anyone who can guess where
it went.
Currently I'm out of my "Blue" period and working through the PURPLE era.

I am in the process of building a ty250 and was wondering where you buy the one piece tank units? Do you have to coat them on the inside of the tank?
