OPEN A CAN OF BABY YAMS

OPEN A CAN OF BABY YAMS

Now here's a Classic! Amid all this wonderful natural terrain why lay out a "box section" on
level ground....and who allowed the guy on the Bultaco in with tennis shoes and shorts?

AHRMA rules state that the entry is the RIDER and not the MACHINE which to me is somewhat
bizarre as I was under the impression that Vintage Trials was to create the aura of what is was
like way back when. The whole essence of the sport was "Realibity Trials" you, and your machine!
Well don't knock it, use it to your advantage and take a spare bike with you.

A clean card at Oak Flats

Baby Glitz has been performing well and I'm enjoying the little lightweight with it's great handling
and super steering. The Rothmans version that was completed under the Christmas tree has had
a few problems but I think we have finally corrected all the nasties! Readers may remember the
"Battleship Inlet Adapter" and some clowns use of the magic silicone. Fine for just poodling around
but, when the engine got hot the remnants of this crap would find their way into the motor/reed
cage/carb and then as a total surprize when you had a good handfull of throttle and the slide was
up any of the melted silicone would cool and then stick the slide up in the carb.......Great!

It was clear that NO amount of cleaning would ever get rid of this stuff. Another strip down, clean
the piston and barrel, change the reed block and carb and at last we can run problem free.

Over to Perris California and a 2 day AHRMA event in what must be perfect trials country. If one
was going to be super picky then the only thing that was missing was tree roots.

Red outfit- blue bike!

Day 1 and Baby Glitz runs well while I'm practicing and now a little wait for the riders meeting and
then back to the car and now Baby Glitz throws a tantrum and refuses point blank to start! Maybe
she didn't want to get dirty, well never mind Rothmans makes a competition debut and runs
perfectly for a good second place to Bob Strohman.

The "Don Smith" approach.

Back at the pits Fred Martinson, Bob and myself strip Baby Glitz and after checking points and
everything she fires up again.

Day 2 and Baby Glitz going well

Cleaning Everything!

Loop 2, all clean and then it dies!

Day 2 and now Baby Glitz is working well and on a nice simple little section that I had already
cleaned the motor dies within sight of the ends card. I swap back to the Rothmans and complete
the lap and hand in my card only to find Brenda there aboard the little red devil which has come
back to life. No more chances so continue with the blue beauty. That 5 cost me the first place so
you can imagine how pleased I was. Later investigation shows that these new OEM points come
with some sort of coating and in order to get 100% performance you must file the coating off!

A good ride at Holbrrook..... Mike Carlton checks.

Fantastic sections at Holbrook

Baby Glitz runs well for the rest of the season distinquishing herself with the AZ Twinshock
Championship which was a closely fought year long competition.

Wrapping up the Championship at Table Mesa

My Kinda' Section, Table Mesa....just like Scotland

So, overall if you are thinking, AHRMA or Twinshock Trials buy a TY175 (preferrably from me) and
you will be half-way to achieving your goals. A great little bike and a lot of fun to ride.

TONY DOWN

Coming up to the end of the year, and man is it cold up here in CO! Hoping for some skiing but
its a survival situation.
