A very good question I often ask myself during my summers of non stop gardening.
This year has been a first in so much that I have not been trudging round Casey’s property looking for 24 sections and cutting trails and loops. It is however the second year that we have had vandals or thieves on our property. Last year some team stole ALL our hanging baskets at the end of August and this year we have had the “frog in the hammock” stolen off the waterfalls followed by some helpful soul cutting all the rose blooms just as we were about to enjoy them!
In the workshop Superglitz sits waiting for her first outing and the Cub is sidelined as the tank is at the welders. Still have that bloody ticking noise to cure and maybe grind a bit out of the exhaust rocker cover. I also want to change the pegs before Tucker’s but we might let that go.
I ordered a NEW pair of boots from the UK last Tuesday and was treated to the fastest trans-Atlantic crossing ever as they shipped on Wednesday and were here by midday Friday!! They actually have “waterproof” stamped on them so a full report on fact or fiction when I give them a try. I found the same fuel cock on Ebay after a good chat with Guru Ray in CA………… Ray also says he wants to build me another trials engine for the Cub over the winter with all the goodies from his vast experience and a load more power?
Fast boots from Gaerne and arrived from the UK in 2 days!!!
This will be a 1st !!
……. and then there is the Beemer still waiting for me to fix the stand which I might get to in the next few days. I did buy a replacement unit from Ebay and I’ve seen the video and read the book!
The Beemer stand motor at the ready.
With any luck both the Cub and Superglitz will get ridden at Tucker’s in September. I have 5 qualifying rides in my class so 1 more will do on the Saturday leaving Sunday for the Yam.
A hot morning and I’m getting tired of weeding! Maybe I’ll clean up the workshop, attend to the “ticking” and have my first look at the Beemer which needs a wash and brush up before I do anything to her.
Despite all the leaks and the annoying tick the Cub behaved well at Sipapu but the soft inlet pipe needs something harder so I’ll have a look in Cortez for a stiffer bit of radiator hose with an acceptable curve on it.
This could work
Still no wiser re the “tick” I’m beginning to think it might be a broken ring after all? Footrests from Apico get ordered, drop off the new fuel cock at the welders so he can pressure test and another bit of radiator hose found that should work. Tank still at the welder’s as I was determined to finish the weeding chores before getting fettling elevated to the No 1 slot.
Apicos as fitted to Superglitz
Sunday, and maybe its Beemer day if I don’t get sidelined with other tasks or visitors. Didn’t go as planned! First Brenda wants to go to the Riverfront for brunch. I had to finish clean up for a front bed and get all the cottonwood roots out of it before planting up with some colorful petunias which are on sale.
Roots and weeds gone!
The Beemer gets a clean and one mini task of the annoying fuel cap cover gets sorted with a bit of WD40 in the plastic catch, which was gummed up. Into town but the tank is still not finished as pressure testing reveals yet another pin hole! No matter on to the garden center for those petunias only to find they have all been sold! Not my lucky day.
Gardening is now finished save for routine mowing, strimming, and weeding so time to work on the bikes without getting sidetracked.
The tank is back and well beaded along both sides but doesn’t look very pretty! Currently looking to do some sort of “cover up” job as I don’t have the tools to get it back to mirror finish.
Well beaded along both sides
Looking to cover up the non mirror finish
Work begins on the Beemer and the center stand is removed as per the video. Can’t understand why I’m missing a bolt? When I look at it further the unit that the “said” bolt goes into is not there?? Further investigation reveals that this piece is only there to support the exhaust but mine was changed to a Remus unit which doesn’t use one. New motor fitted and assembly refitted to the bike. Testing, light flashes …….. nothing! So I’m no wiser, have I overlooked something? is there another fuse in the system? have I bought another duff unit? Time to consult an expert.
Old out, new at the ready
Ready to go back …… but nothing!
Meanwhile the new Apico pegs arrive from the UK but I’m pissed with this stand thing which should be simplicity itself but is proving to be anything but!
NEW pegs in titanium
With the Beemer stand still unsolved I’ll be bench testing both units to see if the motors are working before doing any more. The Cub gets put back together, tank areas given a cover up job and the rest cleaned ready for Tucker’s.
