Another bout on the pool tables yesterday and the Gin & Tonic diet! Today’s results show that I’m finally through the “plateauing” phase and I’ve broken the 200 barrier!!

Not just creeping under it but a SMASH as the scales showed 197.8 which I certainly haven’t seen since my childhood.  When I was on my first RAF tour in Cyprus I was 14.5 stone or 203 lbs back in 1966 so the next milestone is to get under 196 which is 14 stone for those that like UK numbers.

The forecast rain for the weekend hasn’t materialized so although a bit chilly this morning is was back out on the pedal machine and a few more miles in the book. The records show that since I started the cycling “thing” I’ve pedaled 142.38 miles around Dolores and if I keep this up one day I’ll find a way out. Trouble has been every time I’m getting with the program the dreaded winds start blowing and ruin my best efforts.

Another week of “on & off” weather and here we are again at Friday 15th April and another shitty weather forecast of 80% rain and colder until next Tuesday. The “Plateauing” continued all week but this morning after bouncing back up to 199 for 3 days a new number shows up on the scales at 196.8, so that’s 23 lbs down from where I started.

The weekend was scheduled as gardening time but of course I still have my workshop to get into and get on the bikes as I’m only a month out from my first events. Plenty to do!

A ton of clean up to do

The current weather is as per forecast and not conducive to getting anything done of an outside nature but maybe this afternoon Jessie will come over and explain the mysteries of Adobe Photoshop to me as I’m computer illiterate !

Time to get on, “Follow me”

The manic cabin fever cycle continues and now the forecasters are saying it looks like spring but of course today is April 1st so who knows?

The plan is still the Fence and restacking of wood on both sides to make sure the fence stays upright. A little more fettling this morning and another few degrees closer to the vertical and the first logs are laid ……… but then, “There’s no LP in the bus and the gene man is coming”.

This means moving the trailer, but first change hitches, then jacks up and start Safari and when it finally comes out of hibernation off to the gas station and fill with LP ……. 36.2 galooooons and then back, put into slot and drag the trailer back to parking. Will I ever get this wood moved?

Well on a different tack the weight is down to 200.4 lbs from 219.8 so that is pleasing and now that this awful wind has dropped there is a good chance that the fitness cycling will return to the menu. Really want to see 199, then 196 or (14Stone) and maybe even 190 as the grand finale. Certainly the breathing and energy levels have improved without smoking and the weight loss and cycling are making life a lot more pleasant.

Gene man came and went, seems some of the adjustments had moved away from the original settings and the air filter was toast which, considering the off road time is never a surprise. My task is to be out there in the cold morning air and see if it starts …….. it doesn’t so they are coming back …….  again!

Now about 1/2 way through the lumber shifting and it would be great to finish that this morning before the afternoon’s pool comp. The wood is finally all stacked, bits picked up and concrete swept. Pool is fun but never really got with it, played 5, won 3 and lost 2 !

Done !

No matter more pool on Sunday at Mancos where neither of us are qualified. No surprise here as we haven’t been over that many times.

First game against Brenda !!!       I’m playing very well and my last shot for the 8 ball is to a corner pocket and her 6 ball is just outside the jaws but I have more than enough room ……. but the 8 can’t resist kissing the old friendly 6 before going in and giving the game to Brenda !! My next game goes even better and I clear the table without any mistakes or maybes. Its a long fight up the losers bench but I win the next THREE games with other people scratching!! Now playing for 3rd and 4th against Nick and we run nip & tuck and with 2 balls apiece Nick puts me back on the table after a “nearly” shot. I clear one easily but the cue ball is about 3″  off my intended position. Well not perfect but I can cut the 12 ball into the middle and return the cue ball off the top rail back to a good position for the black. The shot looks good, but as I watch the white ball’s roll I see the bloody 12 come back into vision having just run round the lip. Nick wins and another annoying 4th place!

Meanwhile the gene people have been back and cleaned the carb and discovered a leaking gasket which they will replace shortly. More instructions for a cold early morning start …… it doesn’t! they will be back again!

A yo-yo week on weight loss and fitness with weight down to 200.4 but then climbing up to 202 before creeping back down to 200.2 over a 8 day period. I believe its called “plateauing” but very annoying but maybe this time I will slide under the 200 barrier. On the bicycle the week started nicely with calm winds or at least nothing worse than light and variable, but the last few days have been up in the 20 mph zone which is NOT to my liking. No matter I’m up to 12.18 and 12.46 for this week’s 2 rides. Windy today maybe tomorrow.

Saturday and not very pleasant having rained hard most of last night, but it is April, and the forecast is showers all next week. Great for the plants and garden and things are on the turn and greening up.

Well, the weekend plan B comes into effect with pool over the road this afternoon and a “last chance” to qualify at Mancos tomorrow.

So now it starts, …….. repairs and clean up. Where to begin? well the house is having all the trim repainted, but my jobs include fences and “the sign” which  all have a nasty lean. I was hoping that the high winds would have blown the sign over but we are now left with the “Leaning Sign of Dolores” and need to wait for the next bout of high winds to finish the task.

In order to get the “trim”  painted I need to move all the firewood and restack it while straightening up the shade garden fence. Either the weight of the existing firewood has caused a lean or a post is on the way out?

The drunken fence!

Ready to push upright

Its got the leans

First though, all the leaves and fallen branches must be picked up and bagged then work on the fence can begin after removing the current log pile.

Clean up begins

Day 1 went well so today I need to move the firewood and restack on the inside of the fence. Problems look like being the forecast 70% chance of rain or snow but I’ll persist until I’m forced into the wet weather program which will be workshop clean up. The weather was so cold and bloody miserable that nothing got done on the outside as it just snowed all day with a good crisp wind!

Well, with nothing happening outside time to look at the “free 30 day trial” of Adobe 14 Photoshop which I’m reliably told will fix all my diddy pics that I did find on the internet but will not expand back to web site size without losing focus. Again, I’m told they need to be re-pixolated which Adobe 14 will do ?  Without more ado yours truly sits down to review what Photoshop will do for me……. however within seconds I realize just how little I know about computers and the language of geeks!

With the weather in its current mode until Friday I shall be spending a lot of time on the tutorials (of which there are many) and see if my pea sized nodkin can accept any of this jargon. It could take the full 30 days of the trial before I understand what they are talking about.

Yuk !

Thursday morning, still very cold, and with snow still on the ground but the wind seems to have dropped. Maybe I can start restacking that firewood and might even be able to ride the bicycle if it warms up a bit ? ……… no, the ground is now muddy and its still cold and windy so practice some 9 ball for tonight’s competition. Not too bad today so maybe a bit of luck tonight?

Arrive in good order, get settled in on the GT’s and now ready to play. Still not 100% sure about this game as there is a lot of luck involved and you can end up on both sides of it! Tonight it seems luck is with me.

I’m shooting well, cue ball control is ok, but I’m having a few “jaw rattlers” on some very easy shots! No matter the opposition are screwing up on the last few balls and letting me in for the win.

Brenda is also going well and we both win our first 2 games. My next game is against “club pro” Jerry and although there was a chance for me,  he came back strongly to give me yet another arse whipping! One day, one day!

The games continue and as it comes to a close Brenda and I now meet for 3rd or better ……. and remember Brenda has not qualified yet. I get the 2 ball and have good position for a combo off 3 onto the 9 for the bottom pocket ……. sod’s law it works and SHE is decidedly NOT HAPPY ……. but you have to try ….. don’t you ??

I play Bill for 3rd or better and have a good win so now in the Final against Jerry again. I rack and Jerry fluffs a couple of easy shots by his standards but is back on again for the 6 onwards …… but misses the black …… a CHANCE!!!!  Good shot on 8 but the cue ball comes back further down the table than was ideal. Bank or cut? I elect the cut and make a PERFECT shot for the game and a little “Indian victory dance”   ……. yooooohooooo!

Last game with Jerry breaking and he is going very well until the last 3 balls. I come in and sink the brown followed by a tricky black. Again cue ball position is less than ideal and I’m faced with a potential scratch shot or a long bank. Went for the bank and missed and Jerry then tells me I should have taken option 1 ……. would it, wouldn’t it ?     No matter 2nd will do and its back to 8 ball come Saturday.
