The First Dolores River Rally will be held on 12/13 August 2010 and will be open to any make of
The route for the Rally will be The Ouray Loop, 250 miles of beautiful Colorado scenery with
“Rider’s Bends” including the Million Dollar Highway from Ouray to Silverton.
On 12 August the route will be ridden clockwise from Dolores and the fun will take the form of a
Scavenger or Treasure Hunt, so bring pens and cameras.
Now for something different, the 13 August route will take the form of a Poker Run but it will be
“Amazing Race” style where 1 clue leads to another. There will be a couple of “Road Blocks” along
the way and today we are riding the reverse of yesterdays route.
Several GS routes will be available for riders wishing to try some Colorado off roading and this will
be open on 11 and 14 August for those who want to try it.
The Rally HQ will be the Cozy Comfort RV Park in Dolores where parking will be available along
with tent spaces, please see www.cozycomfortrvpark.com for rates and location.
A “beer garden” will be available at the Cozy during 11-14 August and other watering holes are
available at the Hollywood Bar and the Dolores River Brewery.
A “Free” in town Taxi service will be available for those requiring it up until midnight.
A “Recovery Service” trailer will be available on both days of the Rally for any unfortunate who
breaks down on the loop.
Entry fees for the Rally are $25.00 per day.
Within Dolores there is one motel and 3 RV parks, a bar, a brewery, 2 gas stations, library, post office
and a grocery. Eating out there are several places available including the Ponderosa Restaurant,
The Bear’s Den, The Depot, The Hollywood Bar, who tell me they will be having fresh Oysters,
hand crafted burgers and maybe a special or two along the way. The Dolores River Brewery not only
makes some superb beers but they also offer hand made pizzas built to order and finished in their
own wood burning authentic pizza oven….. seeing is believing!
On 14 August Dolores has its own Escalante Days with a full small town parade to kick off the day
followed by a chain saw competition outside the Hollywood Bar and then the ever popular Ladies
and Gentlemens arm wrestling competition and a short walk away the annual Duck Race on the
Dolores River leading up to the evenings festivitites with local bands at the Hollywood and the
